Chispitas Studio ("Chispitas," "we," "us") is a small, family-facing education studio in Brownsville, Texas. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our site or apply to a program, how we use it, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be read, not to be hidden behind jargon.
What we collect
When you submit an application, you choose to give us: the parent or guardian's name and email; the child's first name and age; and the free-text answers you write about your child. If you email or call us, we keep that correspondence. We do not ask for, and request that you not send, sensitive information such as government ID numbers, financial account details, or health records.
Why we collect it
We use this information for one purpose: to review your application, decide whether Chispitas is a good fit for your child, and communicate with you about it. The founder reads applications personally. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.
Information about children
We take children's information seriously. The application is completed by a parent or legal guardian, not by the child, and we only collect the limited child information needed to evaluate fit — a first name and an age. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided us information without a parent's involvement, contact us and we will delete it promptly. A parent or guardian may review, correct, or request deletion of any information we hold about their child at any time.
Program participation, photos & media
If your child is accepted into a Chispitas program, participation may include being photographed or recorded for our website, marketing, and social media — like the photos in our First Class gallery. We ask for a parent or guardian's consent for this as part of enrollment. You may withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us; we'll stop using new material, though we can't recall anything already published or shared. In-person program activities are also covered by a liability waiver and assumption of risk, included in the enrollment agreement families sign — see our Terms of Use for that waiver, or ask us for the full text before you apply.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with a small number of service providers who help us operate — for example, email and form-hosting tools — and only to the extent they need it to provide that service. We may disclose information if required by law.
How we store and protect it
We keep applications only as long as needed to make and act on an admissions decision, and for a reasonable period afterward, then delete them. We use industry-standard safeguards to protect the information we hold, though no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses only what's needed to function. If we add analytics to understand how the site is used, we will use privacy-respecting, aggregate measurement and update this policy. We do not use cross-site advertising trackers.
Your choices and rights
You may ask us to show you the information we hold about you or your child, correct it, or delete it. Texas residents have rights under state privacy law to access and delete personal data and to opt out of its sale (we do not sell it). To make any request, email us — we'll respond as quickly as we can.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. For material changes affecting how we handle children's information, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify applicant families directly.
